So there is this stream in my neighborhood that I walk by every day (32°26'22.7"N 99°46'09.1"W if you're bored haha) and I just keep wondering if there is fish in it? It's only about 10-15 ft wide but it's been steady moving for the better part of a year now.
My question is, what kind of techniques and bait would y'all suggest if I just wanna test the waters (literally lol) for fish? I haven't stream fished in a very long time. Look forward to hearing y'all's tips and hints!
PS I live in Abilene, Tx if that makes a difference

Night crawlers or minnows under bobber, small jigs or spinners.

In-line spinners (Roostertails) should catch just about any fish in the stream.

Every urban creek, bayou, canal is going to have a fish.
If it connects to another body of water that is known to have fish, it'll be having fish as well. Flooding from rains and fish eggs caught on a bird's feet will transport them.
An unnamed canal that drains into a bayou were I live harbors a lot of bass and sunnies. Caught my biggest one there and was at 5.5 lbs. A lot of cyclists and joggers saw it and rushed down to check it out.
Like everyone else said, start on ultra-light.
Good luck.

Every body of water in Texas that doesn't dry up in the summer has fish. Although they can be hard to find before mid-April.
It takes a little while to learn if you haven't already, but nothing out-fishes flyfishing in Texas streams. In cold water like we have now a glow in the dark squirmy wormy will entice. When it's warmer, try foam spiders for the green sunfish, you can reasonably expect a hit on every cast.

Triple ditto what everyone has suggested. Fly gear to ultralight will tell you if their are fish in there. Or you can just throw a cast net too I guess.
