Fun N Sun has access to reconditioned prop shafts that are super inexpensive. Used one from there a couple of boats ago and had zero issues. It was cheaper than a deductible too.

Nettles Props in Austin straightened the SAME shaft on my 225 Vmax on 3 separate occasions without removing ...over a 15 year period. I bent it so bad the 4th time I decided to replace it. A reputable mechanic did the work and said the bearings looked great, just needed the shaft. Same bearings in the boat since new in 2001. Still going strong.
Nettles has straightened hundreds of those things over the years.

I straightened mine last week. Used a dial indicator to find the high spot and put a bottle jack between the cavitation plate and the shaft. I put a piece of steel plate on the cavitation plate for back up. Kept the dial indicator on the shaft and would put pressure in .010 increments till it started to bend. Got it within .005 and works great! I know a guy that used to take a piece of long pipe and slide it over the shaft and bend them back.

Sometimes it works, other times your prop ends up at the bottom of the lake.

Nettles has straightened hundreds of those things over the years. This. I tagged the top of a tree when getting up on plane on T Bend maybe 25 yrs ago and bent the prop shaft. Nettle in Austin straightened it and it's been fine ever since.

I always take it out and straighten it on the press. Done several this way, but have not tried doing it while still on the boat. Sounds like many have done it with great success.
