I am looking to plan a trip to a lake or river in August that would have RV spots and has good easily accessible kayak fishing nearby. Where is the best option within 1-2 hours of central Texas? Most of the guys going would prefer to get away from the city so we prefer to not go into the Austin Marble Falls chain of lakes.

Possum Kingdom State Park is probably too far, but another good option would be Lake Whitney State Park and go fish the river below the dam, big bass down there.

Limited to a 1-2 hr drive; I'd go to the Belton/Stillhouse lakes
A little bit farther and more remote, I'd go to Brownwood--it's 100% full (hasn't been close to full since 2007); I think the fish will be adjusted to the new water level by the summer.

Lake Dunlap in August would not be your friend especially if you're in a kayak......wake boats and jet skis are thick and crazy Think I would try Bastrop or Fayette.

Purtis Creek would be a good lake for kayakers.

As previously mentioned, Lake Raven in Huntsville State Park is nice although technically its not really Central Texas but is within a couple of hours. Lake Bastrop was also mentioned and that is a nice lake too. There are a lot of kayakers there too. There is also a KOA campground in Bastrop and you can launch a kayak straight into the Colorado River from the campground.
Have a Blessed Day, Mike

There's no way in the world i'd be on this "lake" in August in a kayak. You would drown. Bastrop is nice though.
