what if tpwd would take one of the local lakes and exsclusively stock it with northern strain bass? that way guys like me that are bad at adapting after a cold front can have a chance to catch a fish on a saturday around dfw. seems we get them every weekend . i hear northers adapt better/faster to changes in temperature compared to florida strain . should i wake up from dreaming or is this feasible?

Not a bad idea at all. Probably be less expensive too.

Ive been in favor of it for years, they are better adapted for our environment and they grow plenty large.

You younger people may not remember the old days when a five pound bass was a giant. Ten pounders were pretty much non existent.

I would like them to figure out "for sure" why the fishing in Purtis Creek and Mill Creek declined so fast and then never do it again. How much do Bass rely on Grass to survive? Would Northern Strain have better chance of survival when grass is gone?

We had a lot of numbers and 5 and 6 lb fish out of those lakes a few years ago and I believe they stocked those with some of their experimental fish. What were the results of that? Was it a bust?

Prepare for the future-it will be here tomorrow.

It would be an interesting study....but would go against everything they dumped so much time & money into heading the complete opposite direction.

I have been a believer of stocking NA largemouth for years. That was what made fishing popular and recreational in the 70s and 80s. They havent broken world record, largest fish was 20 years ago. Whats wrong with catching a bunch of 3-4#s and making it fun again?

Ive always wondered if it is illegal to stock bass in a lake on your own dime?

I wish they would stock the bass in all lakes the same , not just one or two.

I fish in cape cod every summer and there is definitely a difference. I catch just as many 5-6 pound fish up there as here. Cold fronts dont seem to bother them at all. One of my best days fishing up there was a post front blue bird sky and I hammered them, probably around 35-40 fish in around 4 hours of fishing. It was almost every cast. Here post front I'm lucky to grind out a limit.

I have lived on and fished Eagle Mountain for 41 years. Before Florida strain bass were stocked, if you were fishing deeper than 4-5 feet deep, you were not catching bass.

There are plenty of norther strain that spawn with Florida strain so on the first spawn you are getting 50% Florida, 50% northern. If a second spawn is with
a northern strain then you're down to 25%.

So its a mix and subsequent spawns tend to dilute the amount of Florida strain in a bass even more.

Or so I've been told.
