This might have answered before I cant find it. I am removing 2 HB depthfinders and replacing them with Lowrance HDS 9's . My boat is not here so I don't know if the current depth finders are wired separately all the way back to the battery or tied into the fuse panel. I have time and want to do this right. Do they need to be wired directly to the starting battery or is the fuse panel OK, what amp fuse if direct to the battery and can both be run off of one circuit or do I need to run a wire to console and also a separate one to the front. If i rewire what gauge wire do I need to use. This is a 19' fiberglass trition explorer. Thanks in advance.

I wired mine directly to the battery using 14ga wire with an inline fuse. I think most manufacturers recommend that. I used an electricians wire puller to get the wires pulled to the back.

14-16 gauge is plenty.
Wire it consistent with how you have the rest of your accessories. Power it AFTER the battery cut off switch so there is no chance of it draining batteries. Your main fuse panel or buss bar would be my method. I think they come with like a 3 amp or 5 amp fuse. I would wire each seperately. That is what a buss bar is great for.

12 gauge marine grade wire, in-line 3 amp fuse for each one. Wire both straight to the battery and both with their own dedicated set of wires. Do not wire to a fuse panel. Like you said, do it right the first time. Graphs wont cut off when you crank the engine, less possibility of interference, etc.

Instead of pulling the power cords for each depth finder back to the battery consider using an ST blade fuse panel mounted under a console to provide clean power to the graphs. Feed the fuse panel with #8-#10 stranded marine wire from battery with a properly sized circuit breaker close to battery post. Makes a neat installation with clean power to the graphs.
