I don't have a clue why some companies don't put a hole in the spool of a bait caster, so I have to ask how everyone else attaches the line to a solid spool (no holes) on a bait cast reel...

I for as long as I can remember after multiple four letter tirades always tie a slip knot with a small piece of tape around the spool... There has to be a better way..... What do you guys do to accomplish this???? Thanks in advance...

Tie an overhand knot on very end of line with very very little tag left. Loop it around spool and then tie another overhand knot between the 2 pieces of line and pull tight. Will not slip through due to the other overhand knot.

Mono arbor knot to spool. Spool several wraps of line.
Crazy alberto knot to braid to fill spool as desired.

There is a standard spool knot, probably the same as your slip knot. I never tie to the openings, even if they are there. You might want to try putting a half hitch on one side, then reverse it on the other side to bind the line, then add your spool knot. That being said, the tape trick (or plumber's tape) works to bind the knots.

I always tie around the entire spool, most holes in a spool are to make it lighter, and the edges are machined (and will cut your line). Of course, I only tie it once, when I first get the reel, because I only re-spool, to the backing. When I do, I tie a slip-knot, (pulled down as tight as possible before breaking), followed by an over-hand (granny) knot keeper, and a small piece of scotch tape. I also use tape near the end of the backing to prevent deep backlash.
