Have any of y’all had any experience donating a boat to a charity before and getting a tax deduction for it?
I’m looking for any and all feedback on the process. Was It worth it? Would you do it again?
I have an old boat that works very well, but might be hard to sell just b/c of its age,u boats value is somewhere in the 7-8k range... but I doubt I would get that on a sale.
Thanks in advance.

I transferred a boat to the Dallas Can Academy in December 2017. The process is relatively painless but you must have titles for the Boat, Engine and trailer. They had me scan those to them before they would consider scheduling a pick-up. They also wanted pictures of the serial numbers for the boat, trailer and engine as well as the boat itself. When they come to pick up the boat, you will need to provide them the actual titles with your signature to transfer the boat, trailer and engine. I do not remember for sure but I think I needed to have those notarized (it tells you on the title itself). You do not get a deduction until the boat sells at auction but in my case that happened within a month of them picking up the boat.

Dan, Please consider donating your boat to www.fishamericanow.org, a nonprofit 501c3 company. We teach elementary age kids and their parents how to fish and have teamed up with the TPWD for curriculum and training. We have had several trucks and other donations that are so valuable, financially, in helping kids. Please text me with your contact info and I'll follow up with you. I will be able to assist you with the IRS rules related to this type of donation.

FishAmericaNow (FAN), the TP&WD and HS fishing clubs work together, creating Fishing FANClubs to teach younger kids how to fish. Kids need to fish. www.FishAmericaNow.org
