The hardest thing to do in sports is to hit a round ball with a round bat, especially when it’s coming down the pike at 90+ mph. Try it sometime. Everything else is secondary.

As said before, you have to know the game to appreciate it, especially the pro game. Watching it on TV without knowing some particulars can be really challenging and boring. A pro playoff game is still exciting if you listen to the commentators and try to understand what small games within the big game are taking shape. I challenge you to go to a DBU or TCU game this spring when it warms up a bit on a Friday or Saturday night and you will be pleased. The atmosphere and buzz is undeniable. A ton of metroplex people don't even know about DBU, but they're legit contenders every year and they've made their park into an awesome venue.

Unless you have been involved in the game and understand the very small things that go on throughout a baseball game, it is a difficult game to appreciate and does lend itself to being "boring" for the average Joe fan. 90% of the game itself is not seen by the average viewer and even for those who "know" the game, the average TV broadcast does not convey the tiny intricacies that go on before, during and after each pitch. There may be 9 players on the field, but believe me when I say there are 25 players involved in every single pitch. Yeah, there is some clowning that goes on in the dugouts and even the players will tell you it can get boring, but a good baseball team is "plugged" in. Sign stealing, pitcher tips, pop times from catchers, habits, tendencies, positioning, are just a few things that go on all the time. Advanced analytics have now taken to the next level and a lot of the old schoolers will tell you that today's players are not as "plugged" into the game as before because a lot of the game time decisions are made prior to the games based on scouting and previous tendencies.

"Baseball is kind of like church, many attend, but very few actually understand" .........I don't know who said that, but I heard it years ago and nothing could explain it better.

Everything on your bass boat is broken......You just don't know it yet.

I worry about the future of baseball. You need patience to enjoy baseball and these millennials don't seem to be long on that particular quality.

I also don't see kids in the area playing in parks or an old field. Man when I was a kid and didn't have a game for the team I was on, there would be a group of us playing baseball. If we didn't have enough to play 9 on 9 we had to use ghost runners and make the call if you got a hit where the ghost runner would have gotten. Then again I don't see kids playing football or basketball either and we used to play them some too, but not as much as we played baseball.

We should be alarmed. At start of the 2018 MLB season 254 players (33.87 percent)) of the 750 big leaguer's were foreign born.

Not having a wall cost 254 players jobs.

I can see how it may have been exciting 100 years ago when there wasn't much other entertainment.
I'm probably in the minority, but I find the games pretty slow and boring.

Baseball is one of the best chess matches in sports - so many variables that make it the great game that it is but for those that don't understand it there are so many other reasons to enjoy the game, the storylines never end - things that I have been a part of with baseball - Nolan Ryan's 7th no hitter, or his 5000 strikeout, Seeing Pudge, Young, Jetter, & Rivera final appearances in Texas, being at game 2632, Kenny Rogers perfect game, Beltre's 3000th hit, witnessing the greatness of Clemmons, Jenkins, Niekro, Hough, Johnson, Fidrych, Clyde, Maddux, Brown, Appier, Martinez, Hershiser, Stewart, Viola, catching 2 foul balls at Fenway or catching 2 foul balls at Wrigley or having a Sosa homerun bounce off my hands when he was in the battle with McGwire while visiting all active MLB parks in doing so.

Anyone without an appreciation for the game of baseball should make it a point to watch the Ken Burns baseball series or watch a little league world series tournament at Williamsport...you still may not like it much but you might get the impression you're in the minority and really missing out...

We go to the LLWS every year. My wife is from there and it's a great time. Those kids can play.

My screen name says a lot about me. Played from Little League thru juco and a season in low A. I understand that for those who did not play the game, it can be boring and slow. That’s fine. To me though, sitting in the stands and talking baseball with friends, family and fellow attendees is the best stress reliever I know of. Frankly, I can’t think of life without baseball. And fishing.

My wife and I were blessed with two daughters, one of whom loves going to baseball games (RR Express) with me and we catch up on stuff, eat dogs, popcorn and drink a few beers. The other daughter is too girly-girl to attend lowly sporting events but she has given me permission to take my 21-month old grandson next season. Now there’s another reason to love baseball. And, yes, I have bought him his own glove.

Arguably, the best game in sports. I just don’t see how anyone could deem this sport boring, but then again, I think the same about nascar. I’ve been told that I’m not a true sports guy because I don’t like nascar.

It'll be fine. They need somewhere to go to post selfies while pretending to have a good time.
