Vertical jigging rods - 14lb Berkley Fireline with a 12lb mono leader
Casting rod - 6lb Slimeline...... Has been working better than any of the 6lb I've tried...

20# PowerPro strait to the jig or hook. Crappie do not care about the line... they just want the bait. Hi-Vis yellow if available.

When you tie the braid directly to the leader what knot you use? I use surgeons but if there is anything better out there would try that too. When I say better I mean easier to tie and less bump in the knot. Never had any issues with strength with the surgeons. Other suggestions welcome. I use a double uni. While completing the wraps on each end, I do four. This keeps the knot compact, and it has yet to fail.

yep,...3-4 wraps is plenty to catch fish that are mostly less than 2 pounds, except when you get a big ole bass sometimes..!!!  `

4 lb green mr crappie line if I’m fishing on the main lake and it’s stained/murky. In clearer shallower water, typically on some of the rivers/tail waters I fish, a 4lb fluorocarbon leader is vital to success. That being said, I use 4lb test for ALL of my crappie fishing and most of my other fishing.

This is where I fall. 15/4 power pro hi viz on everything except a dock shooter where I use 6lb high viz monofilament mr crappie. Ive never run a leader on the braid but have always wondered if it would make any difference..... maybe one day Ill actually do an experiment on that.

Ive always used a mono main line and If The water is clear Ill tie a 3-4 4lb fluorocarbon leader straight to the mainline because it saves money. I use this setup all the time, I have landed walleye in excess of 7-8 lbs, hybrid striper up to 8lbs, striper, sandbass, crappie, smallmouth, largemouth, sported Bass, drum, catfish, and even an occasional carp with this setup. To each their own, but Im a finesse fisherman and it works for me, I dont see the need to use 20lb line for a 1lb fish.

I use 10 lb braid. I like it cause it dont stretch and you can feel the light bites.
