I saw some jigs that used both deer hair and marabou and I tied a few and found I like them better than just hair, but can't decide if I like them as much as just feahters so what about you guys? Opinions please if you have one!

Note: Adding the feather makes the hair jig not as stiff feeling.

Look crappie edible to me! Nice job, Skip.

I hope to get out sometime this weekend, or Monday, but the wind is going to crank tomorrow, then some storms possible later Sunday into Monday. We're all wore out here from the past few months at the Weather Service.

Thanks guys!

And Matthew you may just be right about the Lund. Now I have to decide if I want to take the 1700 he has in stock or get him to order the 1800. Only question for me about the 1800 is how will it do with a 115?

I like it!!!

My neighbor ties his own jigs with deer hair from the tail of the animal. He has been very effective fishing a dark purple died jig and has outfished me many times in certain situations.

My nephew also suggested clipping the hair to within a 1/4" of the hook to maximize the effectivenes of the bait. It seems with longer hair, the fish tend to short strike the bait. With this mod, he has improved his hook up ratio...it may be a personal thing.

Where do they go when they're not there???

I have tied some deer belly hair/flash combos and they have great action and catch lots of fish. Those do look really good Skip. Mike Simpson (Crappiemagic) has me tying the hackles around my chenelle and that looks really cool too (Palmering).

Are you talking about something like this? I call this my Woolly Bug and started tying these last year.

Gimme plastic any day! can change colors and patterns 10 times faster than clipping and retying will ever be. Just pull one skirt off, slip the next one on and FISH ON!

I like both plastic and maribou/hair jigs. Just depends on my and the crappie's moods that day and which are enticing more bites. You just never know.

Agreed, plastic is easier to change. But I also tie my own jigs (best jigs in the world grin) and it's pretty neat when you catch a bunch on something that you made. The process of tying is also a stress reducer for me.
