I'm curious why use PVC? Could you just use 2X4's? Just wondering if there is a specific reason you chose PVC The PVC provides some flex. They bend to the shape of the Kayak while providing support. 2x4's would not bend and would place all of the weight on a smaller area... this could cause deformation over time. For the record, Hobie does not recommend PVC, but I feel that is an attempt to sell their $250 cradles! A lot of people use 4" PVC and I have yet to read a negative report.
