Mexico - going down -- no hooks in carry on, no line on reels if you connect / direct flight to your destination line on the reels is OK coming back -- no hooks in carry on, no line on your reels if you carry them on. (Mexico agents will have you remove or "confiscate" them. USA travel -- hooks are OK and line on reels OK in your carry on. if you get a TSA agent that says otherwise they are just being an a$$
