Is this for a certain part of the state? They aren't having any issues in south texas. None at all.

The four feet length limit is from the Trinity River between the I-30 Bridge in Dallas County to the I-10 Bridge in Chambers County, while the nighttime bowfishing ban is statewide. No changes to daily limits.

Catch and release. The dream - to catch one of every species of Freshwater fish in our great state! If only I can resist Carp...

I have spent a lot of $ on my bowfishing rig and equipment because I enjoy shooting carp and gar. That said, I do strongly believe what the bowfisher does is also a service to the lake. I can understand how it turns people off. It's an ugly sport if you're not in it. And just like any other sport, a few bad apples give us a bad image. But I believe it helps the fishery.
Alligator gar take a long, long time to reach a trophy size. So yes, I do believe some type of regulation is necessary as the population of Texas and the sheer numbers of bowfisherman grow. Shooters from the Northern states plan vacations just to come down and hunt alligator gar. This isn't an opinion, I know many that do. That's awesome and brings $ to the state and local guides, but don't underestimate the pressure put on these fish. That said, Texas as a whole has the best fisheries in the nation. I have the upmost respect for TPWD and feel that they will get it right.
If TPWD outlaws bowfishing in general, I'll gladly re-purpose my boat and that's that. I just don't feel it's in the area lakes best interest.

It's only a good cast if you catch a fish...
