Great insight from everyone. Gonna have to try the snell knot and straight shank for flipping thanks for posting Ken.

Punch rig is a must for me. Maybe I've been missing out on other techniques. I will try it on my flipping this year. Ike's knot looks a lot easier than mine.

I have used a 3/0 Gammy Heavy Cover straight shank hook on stick baits over the past few years and have been very pleased with the hook ups - and I have not used a snell knot while using it in this manner - mostly casting to grass edges and brush - using 15/16# fluoro. I prefer the straight shank to the superline EWG style...
OIther cool thing about using this hook s when the keep eventually falls off - it goes in the pile to pour a vibrating jig - because this is the same hook that the new expensive vibe jigs use...
The cool thing about the forums is that you realize there are lots of ways to do this...
