I wish I had West Tex's Tundra. My 2007 Tundra 5.7L gets 13.5 with out the boat and 9.6 when towing. It tows great and I love the truck, especially since it has been paid off for the past 7 years for the price of a new one is double what I paid in 2007, but the gas mileage is terrible.

Im calling you out in this because doesnt it throw a code and flood the engine everytime you floor it and havent you gone through two alternators and two water pumps and have you figured out what that squeaking sound is in the front end @medinalakeguy 1 alternator I will remind you, and why does your signature say Cummins when you drive a 2015 Malibu.

If you want a twin engine 27' offshore boat, buy a 3/4 ton. if you want a 36' offshore boat with triple engines, maybe buy a one ton. If you are towing a bass boat, a half ton is plenty. The average bass boat weighs around 2000-3000 pounds with gear.
Just my 2 cents.

I agree with j.p. I use a 2002 Chevy 1500 with a 5.3 and never a problem just use tow haul, just bought a 2018 1500 with 5.3 and don't see a problem. Unless your loaded with cash get what you like.

Unless your loaded with cash get what you like. I agree with that. If you can afford it, get whatever you want. I don't have a problem with tournament jerseys nor 1 ton diesels towing bass boats.

I have a GMC with the 6.2 qnd I'm averaging xlose to 22 mpg just driving around and about 17.5 when pulling a 19.6 bass boat. However when I pull my 30 foot 5th wheel I only get about 10.5 miles to a gallon. It pulls everything fine, so you don't need the expense of a diesel just for pulling a bass boat. I also pull the boat with my yukon with a 5.3 and it pulls it fine also.

I dont agree with a lot of these optimistic fuel mileage comments.
I have a 2015 Toyota Tundra TRDPro 4x4. It has a 5.7L . I get average 10.5 mpg towing and around 14 empty.
Oil changes cost me, doing it myself, around $80 every 5000 miles. It takes 8 quarts of 0-20 full synthetic. This doesnt factor in the $50 Bluepoint socket that is needed to remove the filter and the skid plates that are a PITA to remove each time.
KwikKar wants $129 to do the oil change. Due to the oil costs and extra labor required.
Those are the only negative things about my truck.
Positives?
The biggest brakes in its class. You GOTTA stop that load, not just tug it along. Paint job is superior to anything GM, Ford, or Chrysler could EVER produce. Interior parts are superior in fit and finish. The overall engineering of the Toyota engine is pretty good, maybe not quite as well engineered as the LS platform used by GM.
My StepDad has a 2017 Ford F-150 Platinum with the EcoBoost v6. Yep. Its lame. The guys saying their v6 fords with two turbos are strong motors, dont know what a strong motor is. The Dodge Hemis are archaic. Dodge is quite probably the worst built trucks on the planet, save for the early Cummins motors. Too bad the motors are in trucks that notoriously fall apart.

The 2 reasons to buy a Diesel:
1. You have to pull heavy loads
2. You just got out of highschool and want to blow smoke out of a tailpipe.
(a bass boat is not a heavy load.)

Went from 2017 Z71 Silverado to a 2018 F250 FX4 ultimate package diesel... After 7K miles and having every imaginable issue I traded it for a 2018 GMC Sierra Z71. The Z71s Ive owned over the years have pulled my FX20s & FX21s without issue. Half the cost of my 2018 F250, better fuel mileage & lower insurance rates..
Ive owned a coupe $70K diesels and Im done with all that mess. Just my two cents..

20.6 “pulling trailer” from a GMC w/6.1L gas motor? You ever simply manually divide the total miles traveled between fillups by the total gallons added at fillup? Sorry but your lie-o-matic trip computer does not work! That's the average mpg from when I leave Azle Tx pulling my boat to Fork and back. That's not actual miles. I get over 22 on the GMC during winter when 'Im hunting and not fishing because of the drop to V4. Either way, just for you, I'll promise to study up on my commercial math.

You had me until you called an ecoboost lame. Oh and BTW your yota comes in last when it comes to power, towing, and payload.

Im pretty sure that my TRDPro, with 550hp/550lbft isnt last in any stock gas truck power rating. ....and yes, the supercharger was factory installed. ...and it comes in first in 0-60, 1/4 mile, and looks! Its around 2-1/2 seconds FASTER than Fords FASTEST truck, a Raptor, to 60mph. As for hauling and towing? I haul [censored] and tow a Skeeter. Well within its design parameters. .....added..... I think it MIGHT outrun a eco boost ford pulling my boat behind it and the ford empty.

I have a 21' Ranger when full of fuel and a tournament load weighs over 4000 lbs. Just bought a 2018 Z71 with a 5.3. It pulls it WAY better than I thought it would.
