I use a home-made lure retriever and have saved quite a bit of $$ with it. I'd never get into the water to retrieve a lure. I did once when I was young - about 40 years ago - but that crankbait also had a 7+ pound bass on it. I got both the lure and the bass, but that water sure was cold!

If fishing is slow and I like the lure, I will pull up bottom with my heavy duty plug knocker to get a lure back... especially a big Joe Spait's flutter spoon.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

>>> I don't throw anything that I will be afraid to lose <<<<
if it doesn't come free and I can't get to it without screwing up something on my boat --- out comes the scissors

I drop a lure retriever on my crankbaits. Sometimes get a extra bait or three.

I remember taking my clothes off in 19 degree weather to get a lure on TB. Just before I took my pants off I tried to jiggle it again and it came loose. We won an FOM that day. I had to convince my partner we would win if I could get that lure back.

Depends on what the lure is. If its expensive, I might give it a serious try. If its constantly a catcher, I might give it a go too. If it isnt working, or never really lights em up, I couldnt care less. In fact, Ive cut off whopper ploppers and threw them into the reeds before.

So, yeh, kinda depends on if its worth it or not.

When a plopper gets fouled, it destroys your line with a cagillion twists. Lol. My line is worth more than those stupid lures.

I only have one left. And I dont use it. It was one of the prototype ploppers that Ish helped make and tune. He made a few of them for Josh Bertrand to use a few years ago and Josh had it on his boat when I fished as a co angler with him a few years ago. He had the hooks rolled in on it for prefishing. He told me swap new hooks on it from my 10xd and use it. Then, at weigh in, he told me to keep it! So I have it. Its a momento.

The ones that say River2Sea are junk. Constantly getting the tail prop stuck and spinning out.
