Ok folks, I got a problem. I have a 1992 Nitro with a 115 Johnson. I am have some gas issues with, for the lack of a better term, dirt in the gas tank. I am running a clear fuel filter with the plastic insert. You can definitely see the trash in the gas. My question is??? Since I can not remove the tank from the boat, what can I do to clean it out. Secondly, can I install a better in line filter.....???????

Any help or suggestions??????

Why can't you remove the tank?

Bill, when all else fails you might try putting two filters in line on it and keep watch of how much gets past the first filter into the second one, may be worth a try,

Sorry, wasn't trying to offend. I'm new to this boat ownership thing. I thought you could remove all tanks.

Problem is that the real fix for this problem is a pain in the A$$. I had the same problem with my boat. I ran it all the way dry once and it started taking trash off the bottom of the tank and clogged the jets. I ran a bunch of sea foam with new plugs. I ran the boat until it stopped up and I cleaned the jets in the carbs. and repeated until it ran "clean" I have not had a problem since but I try and not leave a ton of gas in it anymore.

Had this problem on a 65 Mustang. Used a 12 volt electric fuel pump to draw the gas out of the tank pump it through two filters and return it back to the tank. Had to clean the filters several times but after about 24 hours of recirculation, the fuel was clean and the trash was out of the tank.
