I have a 1996 Ranger 492vs with 225 Evinrude vinacator, 105# trust X5 motorguide, Hummingbird ,Helix 9, 2- Powerpole blades 10' blue, I replaced new powerhead 2 years ago, it is blown again,I was wondering if I should rebuild again or try to sell as is. Or sell equipment off of it?

those motor were notorious for going down with no warning i have always said the only way you know those motor were getting oil was to dump in the gas.

New boats are stupid high! I have a 1996 Cajun an Ive decided Im keeping mine! Motor has never been into except for maintenance. I have the VRO removed and fuel pumps added to replace it. Been mixing the oil in the gas for years. Had it gone thru by my mechanic last fall. 120 psi compression runs like a top. They are solid motors just the oil injection seamed to be a weak link. Might be something to consider?? When I walked into a few new boat dealers and seen what it would cost to replace my boat with one the same size.. that 1996 looked even better.. lol Good luck!

I agree with the above...dump the Rude and repower with a 4 stroke...it's not cheap but neither is a new one..if you like what you have then it's the way to go...I have an 06 21i...250 hpdi blew the second power head...I thought about rebuilding it and selling the whole rig...but if you buy used your just getting some else's worn motor...the SHO is a beast...I bought it with a promotional 6 yr warranty...couldn't be happier..a great ride...and now a great power unit...

Dump the rude. At least go a used older merc for better resale value. That old rude even fixed just doesnt hold the value.. Will have an 02 225 efi merc coming in tomorrow. Or if you have the $, newer optimax or four stroke not a bad route either.
