Can someone tell me what the main difference is in these 2 models and if it's worth the added $400-$500 upgrade to go with the new G3 model?

The Gen 3 has mega + imaging. Which means a more detailed image and will reach depths of 200' with the mega frequencies. The Gen 2 will only read depths up to 125' with the mega frequency

The G2 is a discontinued model, the G3 is current.
The only reason the G2 is cheaper is it is on close-out sale.

Jimmyd, I have the Humminbird 12 Mega SI G2N and it is fantastic. Interesting enough, I run a Lowrance at the console because I like the down imaging a bit better but the Humminbird is right next to it on a Ram mount because I like its side imaging a bit better. You cannot go wrong with either of the models you mentioned! Regards!
