When did tournaments end. And where in the heck did Derby come from. A fishing Detby sounds like a sissy event. What happened to Tournaments.

It'll always be tournament to me. I refuse to say derby. I started hearing the elites say it. Not sure where it started

Hank Parker has been calling them "derbies" since I was a kid.

Move along, a lot worse things to complain about in this world.

Competitive fishing at the amateur level has gone so downhill over the past 10 years. Bass fishing in general has changed so much. Its sad. Too many hey look at me guys instead of fishing for the fish.

I don�t agree. I think we need more �look at me� folks fishing....it raises the winnings with more donors.

"Derby" is a pet name, or by word, you know, "slang" for competition. I bet older guys remember "Soap Box Derbies" when we were kids. Same as in Rodeo/Cowboy circles, a lot of times refer to our horses as "ponies", when they are obviously full size, grown animals. We all know they are Tournaments, no big deal.

Nomenclature, some areas have always called they derby's, blame Jay Kumar for making it more popular to call them that.
