We played the Well Coffee Lounge in Royse City, Tx. last Friday night. Great food there by the way and they sell wine and beer there too. Anyway, not ready for prime time I know, but we had fun. Our bass player was out taking care of an ill brother. We threw a Merle song in the mix.

Vocals good, music good ....but turn down thhhhhhhhhhose amps you are drowning out good vocals. Thanks. Good advice. The guitars are mixed in, they have electronics inside. I recorded this with my HD Panasonic video cam on a tripod on a nearby table which I just hit the record and let it run for the two sets of 12 songs that we did that night from7:30 to 9:30. The restaurant Manager requested that we were to be just background for the folks in there eating, drinking, talking and playing games. So we had to keep it soft. I would have got more true audio if I had tapped into the mixer to the camera mic input. Our bass player is going to be pizzed that we got $75 to split from the tips and 15% of the take. hahahahaha

We have a good steel player at church who used to play for Ray Price but the youngun's in the band and choir don't appreciate steel music.

Very good stuff there Bob.
I liked Merle's music, despised his politics. Hard for me to separate the two.

I liked Merle's music, despised his politics. Hard for me to separate the two. That's why you ignore an artist's political views. Rage Against the Machine are insanely political. They were the bomb back in the day though.

Real Country music has just about gone the way of real mashed potato's. Country bands these days use the same instruments as the rock bands so fiddle and steel guitar players are not as valuable anymore. For me, if the country band doesn't have a fiddle or steel I don't listen to'em. I'm just about down to either George Strait or Alan Jackson.

I liked Merle's music, despised his politics. Hard for me to separate the two. Thanks RayBob. I hear ya on the politics. Difficult sometimes. We did a variety of stuff. A John Fogerty Tune, an Eagles tune, Graham Parsons tune, Dolly Parton, John Denver, etc. I recorded all of the songs. I have a Channel on youtube if you ever have some time to kill: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=bdavismartin

Bob, next time you post a Merle song I have a request; "Looking for a place to fall apart". Easy song in A,D, and E. Heck, most of Merle's songs were just A,D, and E.

There's a really good outlaw movement going on right now. Get you one of the streaming apps. Spotify is what I use. It will suggest artists by style. Just start going through the suggested artists. There's basically three categories of country right now. What Nashville pushes. Straight garbage Texas Red Dirt. Which has some good artists. The outlaws. Which is the country I listen to most. If I'm listening to country.

Yep, most of Merle's song are fairly straight forward. I learned The Fugitive and Sing Me Back Home, a lot of folks recognize them. Are you still playing regularly?

I played with a steel player once who was playing with Ray Price but I can't remember his name. Hey Icepick, how many different people did you meet that claimed to have written the song Tequila? I played professionally too. Probably met 8 different guys, in 8 different parts of the country who all claimed to be; 1) retired touring musicians, and, 2) the one who wrote Tequila. (BTW - My question is in no way related to your comment about Ray Price dude...it just sparked the Tequila songwriter claim memory for me.)

Steel players name is Gary Woodall who also plays bass and he is a slender guy.
Nope that's not him. I remembered the guys last name because he made a joke about it being easy to remember. The name was Day. If you get the chance maybe you could ask Mr. Woodall if he heard of a guy by that name that might've played with Ray Price. Hey Icepick, how many different people did you meet that claimed to have written the song Tequila? I played professionally too.
None.

Junior Knight is one of the better steel players around, Gary Pogue was also an excellent one until he passed away.
