Hi guys. Im new to the forum. I just bought my first boat (a Ranger RB190) in about 25 years and am planning a trip to Falcon next Friday with a buddy. Were on a deer lease near Laredo and figured itd be a shame not to make a run to Falcon.

Anybody have any tips on where to launch or what part of the lake to target this time of year? Well be sticking to the US side.

If the forecast holds, its supposed to be in low 80s that day after a few days in the 70s. Think theyll be moving onto beds yet?

Google Falcon Lake Tackle and on their website in the upper left you can get the most recent fishing report and baits working.

Stay close to the ramp. That lake isnt a good lake to iron out the wrinkles on a new boat. Have fun. Keep your head on a swivel.

Just gonna throw this out, just in case, better safe than sorry. You need a Mexican license to be in Mexico side and dont go sight seeing into the creeks/rivers on the Mexico side.

Thanks everybody. We will be staying on the US side for sure so dont plan on getting a Mexico license this trip.
We had initially planned on launching at Zapata because its closer to our deer lease, but it looks like making the drive down to the state park would save us a lot of boat time. Most reports Ive read say fishing is better on the south end anyway.

How much of a threat are stumps/underwater trees at current lake levels?

Doc,

You will be fine running the lake, just stay within sight of the river markers when running the main lake. The water level is pretty high right now. When you see stumps and trees, there are usually more you dont see. I was out on Falcon today, fishing started slow but got better as the day warmed up. Caught about 15 fish all in the 2 to 3.5 range. Really thick solid fish no dinks and nothing big. Caught all our fish on square bills and plastics. Fish were scattered and not really holding tight to cover. Cover lots of water between 3 and 8 feet. And stop by Falcon Tackle they are great folks and always a great source of current lake info .
