Sandlin or Athens

Don�t forget Livingston. Beautiful east Texas. Cheap land, plenty of fish in that lake.

I had always planned the Sandlin/cypress springs area. Those two lakes plus Welsh and Monticello 10 minute drive, Winnsboro short drive, Fork not to bad.

Lake Palestine. Great fishing, clean lake and just minutes away from Tyler. You are near some of the best Medical facilities, tons of shopping and restaurant choices.

Lake Athens and surrounding areas.

Restrictions on docks/boathouses caused us to skip some beautiful lakes when we were searching. Unless money is not a concern in retirement, don't forget to check out the taxes of an area carefully - there are HUGE differences.

Use Google Earth's timeline function to check whether your dock goes high and dry during droughts, on variable level reservoirs.

We are quite happy on Cedar Creek Lake, but like anywhere else - we had to choose a neighborhood carefully. The reputation here has been bad because of druggies around "speeder creek lake." I probably would not have moved here five or ten years ago, but it is changing as more and more multi-million dollar homes are built.

Been here at Granbury since 05 , I wanted to go East but wife wanted Granbury for family stuff . House and property going up as I�m typing , plus 25 minutes from Squaw , driveway to ramp . Can�t complain have a 2 slip dock with lots of deck and good water , no matter what lake you decide , it�s well worth the investment .

Bought a place at Rayburn 15 years ago haven�t regretted once.

I see a lot of Rayburn here, but isn't that the one with all the idiots running full bore into you in summer? I might be wrong, I don't fish that far south, but seems like there was a complaint thread not too long ago about that.

For me it'd be the Fork area. Too many sticks for crazy amount of jet fleas, and good, good fishing. And some of the friendliest folks I ever met.

Rayburn is great as long as you don't want or need a dock. It's a corps lake so the take line is way up from the shoreline to compensate for the big water level swing as we are having now.

Apparently if you own a Ranger & have never cut a check in your career you are better qualified for the tour. I was told because I don�t have a ranger I didn�t get in. I signed up

Rayburn = Mother Nature at her finest !! No houses or docks !! Just nature !! Did I mention its in Texas !!

For me it will be Amistad. Beautiful lake and you can fish however you want to
