I wore a necktie five days a week for 30 years except for a few exceptions. I always tied the half Windsor I think. I looked them up. Here's what I found.
. FOUND ON THE WEB Wikipedia, Ties.com, and others
Half-Windsor knot Because the half Windsor requires less of the tie's length than the larger... Four-in-hand knot Thick ties often necessitate the use of smaller knots like the Four-in-Hand... Windsor knot A comprehensive step by step guide on the different ways to tie a tie... Pratt knot Thick ties often necessitate the use of smaller knots like the Four-in-Hand...
How often do you? What knot?

Depends on the style of shirt you wear and how the collar sits, but for me, it's double Windsor all the way. Being a tall guy, I need stupid long ties to pull that off, otherwise I have to do some trickery to hide that back tag-end side of the tie.

Funny thing. My wife and I drove upto Austin to watch Cathy graduate from law school. I had forgotten my necktie. I drove down to Dillard's and picked this tie which matched my blazer. Cathy looked at me and started laughing. Look why she was laughing.

When I wore a tie it was either the half Windsor or a clip on. But I haven't worn a tie since I retired from the Air Force and don't see me in one during the rest of my lifetime.

This. Bow ties, cravats, and string ties. Neckties are, in my opinion, an abomination.

Half Windsor. Learned to tie one when I turned 16 (1977) and got my job at Tom Thumb, guys were required to wear ties back then. Got to the point where I could tie one with one hand while driving with the other.
Now when I have to wear a tie I have to stop and think about it for a couple seconds.

I once had a career that required a collared shirt and tie.......sacking groceries was up scale back in the day.
