The deploy/stow feature really saves a lot of the back pain after a full day of fishing not having to lift and lower 50 times a day. I never realized how much that actually effected me after a days fishing until I didn't have to do it any more. If you are young and have a good back you can save a few bucks and just get the terrova. The improved spotlock on the newer models is spot on and you'll never want to fish without it once you try it.

Are you saying the ultrex and ulterra are virtually the same?

No I was saying the Terrova and Ulterra were virtually the same minus the auto deploy/stow.

Ahh gotcha yes agreed on that

I would say it really depends on how you like to fish. I'm a shallow water guy and I'm in the thick stuff a lot. ie. Love the Red River.. I have a Fortrex on my boat and it's a beast. I was thinking about going to the Ultrex but then we bought a Pontoon boat. How is this relevant? Well, I put a Terrova on the pontoon for crappie fishing and dragging jigs in specific depths of water. Also for being able to spot lock on brush piles. Now, this is the best decision I could have made for the pontoon boat, but it made me realize that this was a lot of technology that I would NOT use the way I bass fish. Soooo, I'm keeping my Fortrex on my bass boat and my $$ in my pocket.

This is just me and the way I like to fish for bass vs. crappie. Now if I didn't have the pontoon and I only had my bass boat, again these feelings might be different.

Good luck

The ulterra is not cabled it’s the same as the terrova. They are almost identical. The ultrex is what you want

Can you run a lowrance HDS 8 on the Ultrex or would it be better to switch over to hummingbird unit to run with the Ultrex?

The only time a FF connects to the trolling motor is if you want the link version. It gives a few more options available but not necessary. If you have a Lowrance and will not be changing to HB then you need the Non-link Ultrex. It has it's own GPS in the TM so you don't need a fish finder connected. 99.9% of the people probably don't use the functions that the link add.
