Last week I trimmed the oak tree out back and had a bunch of branches. Wife said I needed to do something with them. No problem I thought. When looking for something the weight them down with, I found some of those cheap plastic flower pots you get when you buy plants. I taped up the holes, filled with concrete, and inserted the brush. I know have about a dozen of these.
Most of the leaves have turned brown and are falling off. I don't know how well they will sink but I'll bring the branch clipper and cut till they sink.
QUESTION: Where are the best placec to put these? On the side of a creek channel, creek, under a bridge piling, in 10-15-20 feet of water? I do know that I want them near trees(or something) to tie off on so I don't have to mess with anchors.
I fish mostly Joe Pool.

Put them in 15-25ft of water on the lip of a creek channel.. Make sure to sink them away from other trees, best areas are where you see no standing timber. You will probably need to anchor them more if you feel like it's not enough cement. If so, then buy some cinder blocks to tie on for added weight... Sink at least 3 or 4 of the trees in one spot so it's easy to find next time out on fishfinder and then email me the GPS coordinates for all of this help j/k Good luck, should be crappie on them all summer. Yep...15-20' for late spring/summer/early fall fishing, and 20-30' for winter fishing. Don't trim them back...keep that brush all together. As Jay mentioned above, just add a cinder block or 2 to them if you need to. I've got brush on creek channels, drops, flats, bridges, you name it. One of my best brushpiles is on a flat with nothing around it for 100's of yards

CajunDave if you plan on putting a pile in J.P. don't put it any shallower than 15ft. If you put it shallower than that it will be covered up with hydrilla by the end of the summer. Try to keep it away from standing timber but near the creek channel with deep water 20ft or more nearby. The bigger the brush pile the better that's the rule on J.P. Make sure you put it where it's out of the wind and you should be okay. GoodLuck CrappieMaster

Thanks guys,
I think I'll be making a trip an afternoon this week sometime. Based on the advice, I have a couple of spots that might just do perfectly.
