Sometimes they carry more than the minimum, but it's still not enough to cover medical bills. If you're on Medicare and you're in an accident, your medical bills MAY get covered by Medicare, but if you get a settlement, they will be coming after you to get it repaid. Doctors often won't take Medicare in an auto accident type situation. I'm sorry, Zeek, but our laws are really screwed up and I blame the lawyers that people have been electing for this junk.

I've found it to be very therapeutic to get a big stick and beat that person vigorously about the head and shoulders.

Best 80 dollars spent for insurance. The value is there. However it is optional

I was an insurance agent for 38 years. In my experience, I've never seen uninsured and underinsured fix your vehicle. They only pay when there are injuries.

Uninsured Motorist pays for medical bills, loss of wages, pain and suffering, etc., when the other driver is at fault and has no insurance.

Underinsured Motorist pays for medical bills, loss of wages, pain and suffering, etc., when the other driver has insurance, but does not have enough to pay for everything. It only starts paying after the others guy's insurance pays it's limit.

Your complaint does have merit. If everyone carried a high limit of liability insurance we probably wouldn't need uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage.

Not accurate in Texas at least. There is a Property Damage portion of the elected coverage accompanied by a $250 deductible. Keeps you from having to make a Collision claim.

I think there is merit to going to a "no fault" type of coverage as a whole.

My wife and I were hit by an underinsured driver and his insurance company adjuster was so incompetent that it took her 3 weeks to contact us. She was so inexperienced that she failed to obtain the accident report from DPS and simply assumed we were at fault because we pursued the claim so aggressively. Her insured also hit another vehicle after striking us and by the time we ascertained that, we had already filed a claim with our uninsured/underinsured coverage. Good thing, too, because he carried minimum coverage and had exhausted his PD limits on the other vehicles damages, a total loss like ours.

Pay the extra. Worth it.

Same here. These type of wrecks are happening more and more. We were hit by an uninsured, non English person as well. The cop that came to the scene didn't even issue a ticket for no insurance or being at fault because he said he couldn't be processed without an ID. I am now a strong advocate that any non insured vehicles involved in a wreck be towed and impounded.

in jan 2008, right after I blew out the knee, I was rear ended by a non insured driver in okieland. after my 50k uninsured/underinsured was paid and my thieving lawyer took 30% (for one stinkin phone call) and I paid out the rest for drs. and hospital bills I was still forced into chapt. 7 bankruptcy. he and the lawyer are on my list of things to do before I die, nuff said.
I still carry it but have decided that if ever in a wreck that involves a non insured, well lets just say I may need some bail money.
and you better check your medicare coverage, doubt it will pay for injuries from an accident, it is the govt. after all.

I would have detained the illegal until I had called ice and they showed. cop or no cop, that is one of the major problems with no wall/illegals. they changed the law in colorado a couple of yrs before I moved, no insurance and your vehicle is towed until you have insurance (I think they even make you get an sr22 policy)

This is typical, No DL means no ticket.

If it was me or you and we didn't have a DL or Insurance we would be issued a few tickets

This is my point of ire. Note that we (legal and responsible) drivers are footing the bill once again for illegal and unlawful drivers. You are breaking the law by driving without a license or insurance.

In Texas the above listed coverages are optional, not required to carry on your policy, you can simply eliminate them.

My policy requires all or nothing. I can have up to 4 vehicles on each policy, if I take Uninsured/Under Policy on one vehicle then I must put it on the rest of the other cars on that policy

I'm going to pay for it, but I don't like it. We drive newer vehicles, can't take the chance of some lawbreaker hitting us and us having to take the loss.
