Went last Fri. Tried deep water then up the south Bosque. And a few places in between. Didn't put one crappie in the boat. Bait seems to be scattered, the result of all the high water I'm thinking.

We have been catching them at Eichelberger Crossing on the north Bosque. But with all this water I imagine thats going to be over with for a while. Went to Tradinghouse this morning and only caught three.

pm sent Doyle.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

went friday fishing for cats, water temp was 50 midlake, 55 on the NW end. Bait scattered. Water midlake was usual waco color, but the NW end was highly stained. Got a few bites, only caught 1. Too much water, looks like about 6 foot high from where I like to fish.

You know, i'm having the same problem as several from what over heard and read....
I know some of you have a lot more experience than I do catchn these fish but years past even after some serious rain I've been able to pick up on a pattern and put some fish in the boat.
Are y'all seeing the very small shad that i'm seeing all over your lakes?
I feel the shad has had some serious spawns and the fish are taking advantage and getting full with little to no effort.
What's y'all thinking on why it's so different this year?

there will be many different schools of shad of different sizes throughout the year, a couple weeks ago the fish I cut open from tradinghouse lake had 1 to 1 and a 1/2 inch shad in them.
this time of year the baitfish school up alot , and the feed window can be VERY short, like 1/2 hour a day, so it makes sense that with more baitfish to gorge on , the fishing will be tougher.
If you go to the waco old submerged dam , the old dam in winter. you will think your fishfinder is broke, because theres so many fish there, im talking tens of thousands,..also millions of baitfish.. you can literally go bounce a jig on the crappies heads, and you might get lucky and get a reaction bite now and then, but getting them to bite because thier hungry is super tough. they just gorge themselves abt 1/2 hour or less every DAY OR other day and if the feed cycle is at night, then your not going to catch any. many times during this season of year , we have very bright moons, with clear nights. lot of feeding takes place.

SK, seems the shad are scattered more than I've seen in past years. Even with a good shad spawn, the shad are usually predictable in winter. With all the new water coming in the lakes here every week and the level fluctuating 1-4 ft every two weeks, the shad have scattered in the shallower water where their food source is right now. Two months ago, Waco was up 20 ft and Belton up 14 ft above normal. Lakes were dropping 6" a day, then back up again, then down again. Almost got to normal last week, then back up 4' again.
Last week the water temp in the main lake was 53 and 56-57 up the river. Lots of changes every week, nothing stable. And the gates have been open for over 2 months on both lakes. That definitely affects the fish patterns.

Thanks LP & KG....... Just making sure my thinking wasn't way left field.....

Usually this time of year is the best time of year to load the boat with slabs......
