Going on my first visit to NYC staying near Times Square. Any must try places to eat nearby? So far I've only got Katz on my list.

Katz Deli is not really near Times Sq. You'll have to ride the subway or take a cab.
There are probably hundreds of great places to eat close to TS, but one of our favorite places is Serendipity and it's even a subway ride away (but closer than Katz). They do serve meals but their specialty is ice cream creations and frozen hot chocolate. Go in the evening for dessert.

Serendipity is good. TS at night is awesome. Subway is cool but you will get lost and have to walk. If you buy any drinks be prepared. Paid $32 for a double shot of crown and coke....

Walk around Chinatown, I bet you can find a good Asian place.
Walk around Little Italy, I bet you can find a good Italian place.
Tavern on the Green for Brunch, but make reservations NOW.

The frozen hot chocolate at serendipity is the most over rated thing I have ever had. I would have a frosty from Wendy's 10 out of 10 times over that.

There is a little pizza place on the north side of Times Square called Rays where they sell it by the slice. Very good
