Hello Everyone,

I am going to Lake Welsh for the first time on Christmas Day. I plan to make a day of it. I googled a map and it shows the boat ramp is at the end of the entrance road. My question is there a turnaround by the ramp? Or do I need to turn around in the parking lot and then back down? I do not want to be the guy that creates a traffic jam in case it is super busy.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!

Nope. Just go down the hill at the back of the parking lot. Its easy. Go into the Parkin lot and follow the road down the backside hill drive up the road from the ramp until you back down straight. Real easy.

Lots of stumps on Welsh. Awhile back someone posted a map marking the "boat lanes" and several areas to try. I put "boat lanes" in quotes as there are really no true boat lanes on Welsh. If you look back on this site you might be able to find it. I had a copy saved on my computer, but it crashed. I'm now using a back-up lap top.

Those stumps are petrified wood. They dont budge. As far as the ramp, if youre by yourself it can be quite the chore to unload and load, especially load. Youll need to load onto trailer real dry and drive it on harder than normal with engine up higher than normal. Gotta get the nose of the boat over the bow stop due to the ramp being so steep. Just be careful because its not the easiest ramp to use. You should have a lot less people on the lake, though, and thats a good thing. GL

Great Lake but can be difficult to get around. There is a lot of stumps and a lot of grass.

Thanks everyone for the information! I was supposed to go on my annual Lake Whitney winter trip but my buddy didn't get a bite out there yesterday in 6 hours of fishing so we rescheduled for later. I will be going solo to Welsh and will report back how I do. I hope everyone has a great Christmas with family and friends!

Do not run to your left (north) when you come out of the boat ramp cove! You are playing Russian roulette if you do. Just some friendly advice.

Oh btw, when you head south around the power lines there were several floaters, HUGE trees floating around the power lines. Just be careful.

I really dont want to start an argument and Im sure everyone on this post knows welsh far better than I do. But to the original poster, we ran welsh for the first time a few weeks ago. Watched several boats run what looked like a trail from the ramp down south to the dam area. We got behind a boat and saved the trail he ran. On the way out we smacked a stump running about 35mph. Luckily it missed the prop but did damage the fiberglass in the boat I was in. We were in the exact middle of the area where this map says its safe to run. Nothing against the guy that made it, but unless you know that lake I strongly suggest you not rely on this map.
