Anywhere from 6’6” to 7’6”, just really whatever fits you. I like the medium-light power with a fast to extra-fast action but I know some other people like a medium power with mod-fast action.

I will say that drop shot combos need a REALLY good reel. The drag has to be extremely smooth and consistent. The tiny hook and super thin line will lead to heartbreak in a snap. The hook set is a reel into it kinda set. Light pressure keeps the hook stuck, then the process of tiring out the fish begins.

Get a Shimsno Stella or Daiwa Exist. The Daiwa exist JDM is on sale at Tackle Warehouse right now for half price. Around $380. A great deal on one of the smoothest drags ever put in a reel.

But if you are looking for a more affordable reel I really like the Diawa Tatula LT($190) and the Lew’s Custom Pro Speed Spin($130).

OK.. the best in the biz at drop shotting.. Arod, Ehler, Van Dam.. all use a 40 series reel. I have used a Pflueger President and a Revo.. alot of difference in the price of the two reels. The Pflueger worked just as well as the Revo, but I like the Revo the best. I use 15lb Suffix 832 Braid to 8lb Invivix Flouro.. 1/0 Gamakatsu split shot/drop shot hook.. 3/8 to 1/4 oz weights depending on conditions and depth I'm fishing.. Oh yeah.. the rod. I like a 7' medium light. I've been using Skeet's Drop Shot rod for about 15 years now and have caught a lot of fish with it. You can spend a lot more money but I don't think it will catch you more fish.

Good luck with your choice

I like a 6ft 10in. bait caster rod and a Daiwa Steez reel. Im not a big fan of using spinning tackle.

I use a Nanoace made by Majorcraft.

NRX 822 with the exist would be a nice setup without going super expensive (stella).

Pflueger president is the best deal out for a reel and paired with a falcon lowrider shakey head jig rod is a bad @$$ combo.
