My girlfriend and I got a room down in Granbury Friday night so we wouldn't have to get up way early Saturday morning. Well the hotel we stayed in had like two working outside plugs, so I had to go buy a longer extension cord to get my batteries charging. We had dinner at Hoffbrau and it was amazing. We get back to the hotel and some black Yukon decides in their infinite wisdom to park as close as humanly possible next to my trailer.
Well we go to sleep and neither one of us set an alarm (I'm getting old and my memory is not what it used to be), we over sleep and finally get on the water by 9:00, totally miss the morning bite. So I ask my girlfriend several times are you ok backing in a trailer? Oh absolutely no issues, Great lets go. I go the truck lined up, so all she has to do is put it in reverse and back me in. So far so good, no issues, well she pulls the truck and trailer out then proceeds to turn left. I am yelling, other trucks are honking horns (blond moment here yes I know), finally she see's the error in her driving without damaging my truck, she starts to turn around. Well, when I am at Squaw Creek, I put my truck in 4 wheel high. So she calls me to tell me the truck is not turning real well, I say to her it's on 4 wheel high, she corrects and all is right with the world again. She takes the truck and trailer out to the upper 40 parking lot and returns. The Game Warden is putting his boat in the water too at this time, nice guy, I ask if I can help him out by parking his truck so he doesn't have to do it himself (plus I checked to see if his headlights were on). He handles it all himself, show him my license and ask if he wants to inspect the boat before he starts his day. He was very appreciative. He parks his truck and starts checking everyones licenses and everyone was very courteous. I wish him luck and to watch out for the group that calls themselves the Texas Fishing Forum.

So we start our day and I am shocked to see the water temp at 66 degrees (what happened to the mid-70's?) We struggled all day and only managed like 7 fish nothing over 18". The clock is showing 2:45 and I figure, it's getting that time.. I strap everything down and go to crank the motor and the cranking battery is DEAD!!! Not even a click. Well I look all over my boat for my jumper cables which were sitting in the backseat of my truck, so now I am getting fussy. I see one boat in the distance, my trolling motor batteries were still in great shape, I eased over to this other boat and ask if they have any jumper cables, nope but if I have rope they can tow me in. Perfect I am getting happy again. We get back to the dock. Of course we chat with the other boat on the way in...Silly comments like hey I bet this is the fastest this Basscat has ever ran!!!! Needless to say I am rolling on my front deck.

I make the 5 mile hike to go get my truck, get it backed in and the challenge starts. I figured I could get enough forward momentum that I could load my boat on the trailer... NOT!!!! So after some yelling and cussing and with the help of yet other strangers, They let me their jump box and my motor fires right off and I am able to load my boat now.

So I would like to publicly thank the couple in the Red Nitro Z-18 for towing us in, I really appreciate it. Sorry I did not get your names but again THANK YOU!!!!! Also thank you to the guys that let me use their jump box to get my motor running again. I know that's why I always stop to check on boats out in the middle of the lake to check on them to make sure they are ok, Karma is a big deal to me. As we were leaving the bottom parking, I saw a guy that seemed like he needed help, so I stopped to check on him, apparently I was too late, he just got done fixing the problem. So we are now leaving and fixing to climb the mighty hill and I see a Skeeter being towed by a Toyota Tacoma start sliding back down the hill. I am like in reverse to get out of the way, he gets to the bottom of the hill and gets a running start and finally makes it up the hill. We make running start at the hill and no issues.

So that's the end of our day... It's always an adventure it seems...

Moral of the story from now on make sure I have jumper cables in my boat... Again thanks to everyone that helped us out. I was in the Basscat being towed by a red F150

Jump starter in the boat is the only way to go.

I can count the number of times Ive been to squaw using both thumbs. Twice. Both times have been great. Love the lake. I also dont see the crying and all when I go. Everyone is friendly and its a fun atmosphere.

Last Sunday was my first time. I found out the hill is real. My full size Tundra was spinning out going up that wet pavement last weekend. Today, 4HI and it was not an issue.

Cant comment on the water temps. 67 or so lower end and 65 or so upper end. Seemed warm enough to me. Fish bit really good last weekend and size was better today.

Glad you were able to find help. Ive been there. It sucks.

As for the water temps, they shut down one of the reactors a few weeks ago for maintenance, it won't come back online till 1-15-19 so it will be different for a little while. Been out there about 10 times this year and it has really been good this year with 2 to 3.5 pounders. Three trips with over 100 total count for the day, average has been around 70 fish per trip, yesterday was definitely off, but I did finally catch one close to 5lbs. They are suspended in the trees.

I added a tournament saver to my boat this year. I still carry the little jump box as a back up. My wife can tell you I am the picture of Murphy's law. Here is a link to the tournament saver. Lot easier than carrying jumper cables. http://tournamentsaverpro.com/

Hey Mike,
The person that towed you in was Barry Fish I believe. He posted on Facebook "That's the fastest that basscat has ever traveled". I have towed many people in as you I believe in karma as well and always stop to help. We ended up catching 25 yesterday but was a tough bite.

Well I load tested my battery this morning, it was shot and I got it less than a year ago. If the shop I got it at is open Monday, I will swap it out. I am going to find something like one of those boxes for sure. Plus I will get some cables just in case if Murphys law is around

I have not had good luck with batteries either. Seem they don't last as long as they use too.

I've got two Walmart deep cycle batteries with 3-15 dates and still going strong. Trolling motor is a Ultrex, don't know if that matters or not but when these go bad I plan on buying two more. Hard to beat the price.

Make sure it is charged before you go out. I loaned it out twice, and didn't recharge. When I needed it, it was dead...

I also keep the 7/16 box wrench in my rigging compartment tray right above the batteries. 1 positive, 2 negative leads, and I am on my primary trolling battery as a backup...
