When I was a kid. Fifty years ago my grandad would buy slabs of Cotten seed cake at the feed store and cut them in smaller pieces. Then he would drill a hole in the center of the smaller pieces to yin a line with hooks thru to catch carp for trotline bait. He also used this cake to bait holes for carp. I am curious what folks mainly use to bait for carp. I have seen a video of using cooked feed corn as a chum. Suggestion please?

Range cubes. Work just about the same as the old school cotton cake. Pretty cheap at under 10 bucks for a 50 pound bag.

Yellow hamony with some extra sugar works too and gives a larger profile than sweet corn.

A buddy used to put dry dog food & stale bread in a sock with a rock and throw it out on a line where he was fishing for carp or catfish with other bait. He'd give it a tug once in awhile to get the attractant cloud going. I never tried it, but he swore it worked.
Enough of this idle chit-chat. This ain't no retirement home. EVERYONE! Get back to your oars. The Captain wants to waterski.

In a past, I had some bad experience with feed corn: turtles (always!) came first, and my fishing was on halt for couples weeks on this spot. No more feed corn for me until some will prove it works in some spot Also, range cubes sounds real good to me. I'll give it a try! As of now, - plain sweet corn - for the spot OR - mix of oatmeal, panko, strawberry coolAid and sweet corn - for a feeder. With imitation corn on a hair. Hook #8.

I bait range cubes year around for catfish. I never fished for carp over my cubes. The old cake worked very well . We cut it up with a jig saw and drilled a hole thru it to run a line thru to attach hooks. We used the carp we caught for catfish bait.
