2008 Yamaha vmax hpdi 250. I had the prop redone, I won't say where. First time out after I got it back everything was fine, when I was getting ready to make a move I was only getting 3000 rpm trimmed down 4200 trimmed up. I adjusted jack plate and I'm up to 3200 down 4600 up. Any thoughts on where the rest of the rpms went? Motor starts and idles fine.
Thanks in advance

Step 1 Verify that it is your prop that was returned. Mistakes can happen.

So it was fine during the first run and on the second run, it wouldnt work correctly? Maybe it spun the hub?

I would check compression it cold and if didn't warm up good could have scored cylinder. We can check it out and do a down load to see if you set any codes. Im open all week and will be open Wednesday - Friday after Christmas if want me to check it out for you.

If I read the OP correctly and it ran fine on the first run then it isnt the prop. Also a spun hub will cause the motor to over rev and speed to drop.

if it was all fine on the first run out, then i'd look into the fuel lines.

Thanks for the input. Turned out to be a foul plug. Any recommendations on where my jack plate should be? 12" offset, slide master, 27 t 1 Yamaha prop

Get as much lower unit up out of the water as possible.
The racing boat guys would keep raising it up until it cavitated or didn't run right, then set it back down a little.
Another favorite method would be to run a imaginary straight line back along the bottom, and line up the prop shaft on it as a starting point.
But watch out that ya don't get your water intake up out of the lake, or you might need to put a low water pick up on it.

That worked on my buddy's boat with a 200 Merc.
He wouldn't fess up to the rpms but he gps-ed at 94 on gas without a low water pick up.
