Gill, Guidewear, 100mph suits are typically better for colder climates, while Simms ProDry and Guidewear Pro or 200mph suites are better for warm weather climates. The latter use newer Gore Tex Pro which is lighter and more breathable than previous Gore Tex. Gill F2 suit is getting a lot of press lately, but I don't believe it's Gore Tex, but some other proprietary fabric. Personally I would want Gore at the price points of these items.

How cold? I still believe that Cabela's Guidewear is the best. They make anything you want, from chilly to frigid.

We have long conversations about this kind of stuff on a weekly basis during winter time. LOL

Due to the nature of my business and the fact that we fish almost every single day in the winter, we have developed some very biased opinions, lol.

I am speaking from experience. And For those who are only going to be out in the elements for a couple of hours once or twice a month I do believe there are lots of box store suits that will work for you.

Personally I have owned Guidewear,100 mph suits And even Simms stuff.

For absolute protection in heavy rain and terrible conditions nothing will beat a GILL suit. Compared side-by-side with the other suits mentioned the Gill suit will out perform by a large margin the others.

Factor in a lifetime warrantee and it really is a no brainer.

I have this and disagree. Top of thigh area will get wet in constant wet weather,. I also have BPS 100 mph and it is very good if you layer up. Not gonna soak thru.

Military Gortex is another more affordable option, if its good enough for the troops(Army, Air Force, and Marines) to wear daily it is not all that bad. I've used it for a lot of years, have the suits in dessert sand 2, upland 2, and the new digital camo. I wear suspenders with the pants and the parker over it and stay dry, Now I only fish 4-5 days a week nearly every week. I know it's not the very best but I do have a set of Artic Armor for the really bad funky days. Artic Armor is for sure a top of the line product but is not an affordable option to most recreational fishermen.
This is just another opinion based on about 20 years of winter fishing. The old Cabelas 10X was also a great option, when it was available(made by Walls)

Gortex is the only way to go.. I have a 16 year old Gortex bib and coat set that I still use. Bibs got a little tight so I got a BPS 100 mph gortex bib but still wear the old coat. Keep it clean dry and put away when not using it. Last forever. I layer under it as needed and can fish any conditions that I want to go out in.
