Sticker shock on the GPS units - looking at refurbs. Anyone have experience with them? More tech = more trouble on rebuilt?

Thinking 2nd year of warranty might be worth the $$$

I had a remanufactured Terrova for a couple of years no issue. Now I have a remanufactured Ulterra. It was in the shop once because I let the cord get tangled and the auto show broke but have had no issue since. Saved a lot of money on both. For me it was totally worth it.

Thanks Bobby. Both were Factory refurbished & 1 yr warranty? Where did you buy them?

You asked about the GPS units. MinnKota has just announced a 3yr warranty on the Ultrex. Ulterra and Terrove (the other GPS trolling motors) still have a 2yr warranty. I would hesitate to go with the Factory reconditioned. The last few (although I elected out of the FR program several years ago, I am still able to purchase and sell FR units), after adding freight cost to the dealer and a modest markup are within apx $400.00 of the new one. When I ship one, then it's another $85.00 which brings the customer to within $300. apx of a new one. To me, and knowing what the customer is getting, the extra warranty is worth more than the up front savings.

My Terrova I purchased from Cabelas. My Ulterra I bought from MyGreenOutdoors here on the forum. No one could touch his price and if I remember correctly, it included shipping. I think it was around $400 saving if memory serves me right.

Keep an eye on on HodgesMarine's website. I picked up a refurbished 80# X5i on there for $650 2 years ago and got a $100 rebate from MotorGuide to boot. It looked brand new and showed no signs of ever being mounted. Later I added the PinPoint GPS kit for only $300 again from HodgesMarine so I'm in it for a total of $950.
