The lake has come up 2 feet already. It is currently at 240.13 ft.

I went back to the dam this morning. I got there at 6:30 and there was only one car in the parking lot. But sure enough the Katy express beat me to the spot I fished in yesterday.

I fished down at the end of the rocks and caught lots of crappie. About 1 in 4 were keeper size. Probably another 10 to 15 people showed up in the next hour. Everyone was catching crappie. There were 3 people fishing off the end of the dock with weighted line and live shad. They caught 7 or 8 big hybrids.

I moved around and finally found the white bass. I ended up catching about 25 white bass and 2 hybrids. I was using a bead chain clouser (The Magical Clouser). That has been one pattern that has been consistent over the years. After they shut the flow off the fly rod and magical clouser always catches more white bass than using conventional gear.

It will be two weeks minimum before I can make it back that way. Hopefully the white bass will be on the move.

The water shed for the Yegua received around 4-1/8 inches of rain. So it should see a good rise in the water flow.

Assuming it takes two days or more for the bulk of the water in the Yegua to reach the lake I would expect the lake to rise another two feet. Come January the whitebass should be in all the creeks in good numbers. This is about the best timing we could ask for when it comes to fishing the Yegua and other creeks of Somerville.

I went checked out the creeks this afternoon. The Yegua was way out of its banks and flowing like a river. Nails and Cedar were high but in remarkably good shape. There was about 6 inches or so of visibility. I would think they will be just fine to fish this weekend.

The Navasota river is up and out of it's banks while Lake Somerville is on the rise.
Fishing below the Lake Somerville dam should be good for the next two months or longer as the Corp Of Engineers (COE) brings the lake back down to normal level.
This really sets the stage for a great whitebass run up the creeks all around the lake.

Keep updated on the lake levels & fishing here:

I have my deer tails dyed evening blue. Now just need to order more jig heads from Cabela's.

Looks like the Yegua will bring up a ton of whites with that flow. They should make it all the way to Irwin bridge. This could be a killer year.... I've seen the water this high in Dec. before and fishing was awesome. Just after X-Mas limits were being hauled out big time...

It's hard to beat home tied buck tail jigs, I know because I use to make them all the time. I still have a few left and only use them when fishing gets tough.
