Is anyone spider rigging and using the handheld remote for an Ultrex or any motor for that matter?

If so do you prefer the foot pedal or the remote?

Seems to me the remote may take away from reacting to a bite.

Thanks for the input.

Kinda depends on the conditions. If you have a fairly steady headwind, the constant on function works great. Most people now have the foot pedal mounted permanently. So moving to an alternate seat for spider riggin up front makes reaching the foot pedal a problem. Rather than take the foot pedal loose, I use the remote. Once you get the speed adjusted to what is needed, all you need to do is bump on and off and that doesn't take your eyes away from the poles. I don't need to steer that often. And when I get a bite or catch a fish, I hit the spot lock. There's usually more than one fish at that spot.

I'm sure you could use the handheld, but with 6 or more rods out, I like my hands free, so I use the foot control. As said above, I like to bump the trolling motor off and on as I get a lot of bites just after bumping off and letting the boat settle in position.

Look out for the sand bass and hybrids. They can make a mess out of things in a hurry.

I personally like the foot pedal, I seem to have better control and my hands free.

Spider riggin alone, I definitely use the foot pedal. But when a double seat is added up front for two people, reaching that foot pedal is a big problem unless you're about 7' tall. roflmao
