Ordered valve rebuild kits for live wells on a 95 ranger. The rebuild kit comes with two flappers, one with a button one without. The flappers on the valve currently dont have the buttons but these are early models. Are the buttons version a stronger upgrade or serve a different purpose? Dont want to put it all back together to redo it all so any help would be greatly appreciated. Called Flow-Rite tech and wasnt confident in the response I got.

I think you should have gotten two flappers without buttons in the kit, if I recall correctly the button flapper is stiffened to prevent water from coming into the livewell, like when you are in a marina with spilled fuel in the water and operating on recirc only. That option is on the 3-position valve. I had one once, now just have the 2-position. But I haven't opened one of these in a long time and may be off-base.

Call them back and ask again.

That sounds accurate from what Ive been reading. I only have a 2 stage fill and empty setting so Ill just stick to the buttonless version.

Got the rebuild kit. The instructions included were more informative than expected. Steve you were right. The button flappers have an extra metal piece so they dont move to let water in.
