Had no idea that reds would survive in a pond. How do they deal with the cold water?

Had no idea that reds would survive in a pond. How do they deal with the cold water? The pond has fresh water pumped in year round so Im sure that helps and I had no clue they could either... And thanks ducer02 it was a good bit of both Butch now Im gonna have to find a different closet to rummage
