I smiled when I saw this thread. My partner and I fished Squaw Creek sunday, we caught 13 fish, biggest was 4.57. Actually my partner caught 11, i caught 2. So in an effort to see what I could have done different, i started reading and watching videos on fishing a fluke. The most novel way I saw it rigged is with a round bend hook, and texas rigged. Before inserting the point end in he slipped a bell sinker on the hook, and left it slide back and forth. The angler claimed that the sinker would slide to the middle of the hook and cause the fluke to drop down in the water column, and it would hold a horizontal position.
Thought that was interesting.

Well I'm no pro, but some will tell you that I can fish a fluke pretty good and many different ways. I found it years ago you just have to be patient with this technique. A couple of years ago in a tournament with a hour or so left I boated 3 bass in a row to pull a second place finish. Color of choice watermelon red and my famous sweet potato fluke. I'm just saying.

Don't rule out a Senko type bait and a baby brush hog. Both of those are fantastic fish catchers.

Supposedly Lake Fork Tackel makes their own version of a fluke. Only downside is Im going to have to order them online, because no one in SA wants to carry them.

Fish it Carolina with 1/2 oz to 3/4 oz (depends on wind) with a 30-36 inch leader, but don't drag it. Instead, fish it just like you would a fluke near the surface or a Jerkbait and HOLD ON!!
WARNING: Bites tend to be rather VIOLENT in nature.
Everything on your bass boat is broken......You just don't know it yet.

When Senko's came out I put my flukes up. Really haven't ever picked them back up.

The Cabellas Outpost in Waco carries them. We have next to nothing: Bass Pro which only carries their brand, Dicks has about 10 things on the shelf and Academy. Pretty sad that Academy might have more than our Bass Pro has. Slim pickings around here for tackle!

Try Carolina rigging it......deadly...
I remember Fishing Medina when I was young....Gin clear water makes it tempting not to fish a fluke all day and watch those bass come up and eat it. +1

Try the fluke on the dinky rig (mini c-rig) and hang on it gives it somewhat of a slow fall and changes the way it darts through the water when you twitch it. Bonus is that it does not hang up as much as a c-rig and can be fished extremely shallow or deep. Also if you change the angle that you put your hook in your fluke you can make it do a dart in spiral action which gives it a more realistic dying bait fish look very effective in late fall. good luck

What makes it such a great bait is its variability in retrieval speeds and techniques; that, and the fact that it can be fished throughout the water column from the surface to the bottom. It also helps that with most riggings, it is pretty weedless.
Would I use it over other presentations if the bass are feeding on the bottom? Likely not as I'd switch to something like a T-Rigged worm or a jig.
My all seasons favorite is a 4" Keitech Shad Impact (essentially a soft jerk bait) on a 3/0 hook with a CPS screw pin, thrown weightless. But, as a kayak angler, I am fishing shallow water most of the time. The idea shared regarding adding a bell weight onto the hook would be a great idea in many circumstances where you need to increase the fall rate, fish it deeper.
If I had a single tip to share, it'd be that what works for me is to fish it very, very slowly. Yes, it'd drive many anglers nuts.
