I must have spent a half hour trying to get a clean Shik Fukai knot, but my fingers don't seem to work the way his does. I can tie a double uni in about 20 seconds. But I'm gonna keep trying... Shik happens! thumb

spent last night practicing on the FG knot while rooting on the Stars.

I suck; can't seem to get it right.

I noticed that most of the youtube videos are using much heavier line (80lb braid, 40lb leader) than i'm using (30lb braid, 12 fc leader). heavier line seems to make it easier....

I'll keep trying; were you guys successful the 1st time, or did it take many practice sessions?

Ive been using an Alberto as a junction knot for 15lb braid to 10lb floro. Its worked great and Ive never had a single issue with the knot failing. If you have micro guides it is noticeable and sometimes sticks. I recently saw swindles post on YouTube where he ties the Red Phillips knot. I tied it several times last night and casted it through my spinning rod with micro guides and never felt it at all. Ill be testing it to confirm its streng but I dont have any doubts.

I have found a little trick that helps tie the FG knot correctly and easily. I tie a loop on the end of the braid and put that on a heavy pair of needlenose pliers instead of holding in your mouth. This holds tension on the braid while you work the fc line. I hold the fc between thumb and fore finger of left hand and as I wrap above and below, I move that between finger grip. You waste a foot or two of braid but get a good knot every time.
