So.... I re-line all my reels and lock down my drags Friday night. Final club tournament of the year was yesterday, I got my first bite, set the hook, the fish runs slow to deep like a big fish then, bink, off she goes. First thing I do is check my drag and it is lose. That cost me first place of the day and angler of the year. Now Im Mr second place for the day and the year and thankful but.....

I have had these Curados for 9 mos and have found the drag loosing up to be a problem long before this tournament. I frequently check my drag but not enough this time. I dont know whats causing it. My theory is when I get hung up and pull on the reel it loosens, but I really dont know what is causing it. Do you guys have the same problem? Do you know whats the real cause? Such a frustrating thing if in fact its the reel and not me after paying so much for these reels.

Thank you for your replies/help in advance.

Dont store your reels with the drag cranked down
It will flatten out the drag washers and cause then to start slipping prematurely

I heard one of the pros say that he had the same problem with the drag but not talking about Curado. He said the same thing, he didnt know how it happenes but he thought his hand was hitting the drag while casting or something. Ive never had this problem with any other real either. I have some calcuttas and never a problem with them. I guess its just the shape of the real and the way Im holding that particular reel, but Im doing something, I have about 10 of these reels and it happens on all of them, so if no one else has issues with curado it has to be me.

The button you hit with your thumb to cast broke off on my < 1 year old Curado yesterday. Going to see if I can get it replaced.

Yep. Me neither. Sounds like a freak thing or user error. Or just as excuse.

I don't think it's the reel's fault man.

And the old urban myth about the drag washers flattening out are from 1960. The drag washer material of today's reels are not going to flatten out on you. I never loosen my drags after a fishing trip and have never had a drag related issue. I have had a few times when I have loosened the drag for one reason or another and forgot to tighten it back up but it has never been the reel's fault.

I have had the same issue with the I model. I will have the drag set one trip out and the next it's loose. I'm not sure if it is the same reel each time or a different one, but when I fished that model I would have to check them once on the lake and would often find one loose. The K models have been great except for one having the chrome cover pop off the spool release. Glued it on and it has been fine.
