after reading a lot of posts on here about using a bright colored braid with a fluorocarbon leader, i decided to give it a try. I set up two different rods - a baitcaster/MH rod and a spinning/M rod. I used the alberto knot of both (after practicing a bunch, i think it looked good).

started out with the baitcaster setup, and everything was good for about 15 minutes, and then BOOM. the knot caught on one of the eyes going out on a cast, and i had the worst backlash i've ever seen. Put that back in the rod box, and grabbed the spinning setup. Once again, all was good for about 15 minutes, and then the same disaster happened, and the spinning setup went into the rod box too.

How do you keep this from happening? I think the knot was good; i watched youtube videos and watched videos on several websites.

HELP!!

Cut the tag ends VERY close to the knot and put a drop of cyanoacrylate, aka super glue on the knot. Makes it small enough to use on microguide rods and extremely strong.

I dont use leaders on baitcasters though, so Ive never experienced the blow up. Haha.

Now if someone has an answer for wind knots and braid on top water stuff, Im all eyes and ears.

I use this knot for my leaders, it is easy to tie with practice and it makes a streamline knot that I haven't had hang up on the eyes.

Again, practice makes perfect

Good luck

+1 on the improved/crazy Alberto cutting the tag ends short, then rubbing in a dab of superglue into the knot and over the tag ends

Rubbing in a dab of superglue makes a big difference to lay the tag ends down

I always used the surgeons knot for braid to flouro. Never had a knot catch in the eyes.

I use 30# braid (P-line TCB Teflon Coated Braid) for the main line and 15 lb. mono (P-line CX Premium) for the leader. I join them with a double uni knot which is easy to tie with a little practice. You can also tie a single uni to single uni which is a little easier. I have had no strength issues with either. I trim the excess line with scissors very close to the knot.

In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

The surgeons knot with a drop of super glue is 500% easier and works very well when tied correctly which is very easy to do

FG....Strongest, thinnest, best casting and hardest to learn to tie. But once you learn it's absolutely the best there is.

I agree with the FG knot. Takes me 2-3 times to get it right but it goes through the guides like butter and I have 100% confidence in it's strength.

FG knot.

It's a PITA to learn, but totally worth it. Bulletproof.

Once you learn it, you can tie it just as quickly and easily as any other knot.
