Hey Guys,

Performing my first water pump repair on a 1992 85 hp Yamaha 2 stroke. When I dropped the lower unit, this part fell out without me seeing where it came from.

What is this and where does it go? I checked all the parts diagrams online and haven't found it yet.

Thx,
Tod

It looks like it may be a water transfer tube to connect the lower unit to the powerhead.

Agree. That's all it could be.
When you put the cases back together, be REAL sure it stays on. It connects the tube coming out of the water pump
to the one up inside the middle case.
I've found it easier to get it all back together if you raise the engine up so its more or less horizontal.
It starts going together easier, and you won't have to hold the weight of the lower unit to start the nuts/bolts.
Plus, you can see up in there to be sure that coupling is on.... without it, the engine will overheat and seize.

Looks like a part number on the piece. Might try looking up that number or call a Yamaha dealer and ask them to look it up.
Most pick up tubes are just tubes without all the extra molding. Those tabs probably fit into something.
That's a lot of extra molding of tabs for just a pick up tube.

Hi Guys,

Much appreciated on the responses. I took the lower unit home with me after the holidays to make the repairs. It would help if could see or had of taken photos of the inside of the middle unit.

What are you thoughts on the Sierra Pump Kits?

Thx,
Tod

Sierra makes good stuff!!!! dont order thru autozone or orielys though, you will never get them.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !
