I recently buffed my boat with ProTec as it had a hazy film over it when purchased. Any recommendations as to what i can wax the bottom with? I am trying to get everything in tip top shape!
Completed Items thus far..
- Trolling Motor & Graphs Installed
- New Tires
- New Bearings & Hubs
- Lower Unit serviced, impeller, water pump replaced
- Tightened all Jackplate Bolts
Anything else you can think of to check off the list?

I personally wouldn't wax the bottom. You will get better performance with it not glass smooth.

@ring fry - Thanks for the input, i've heard guys have different inputs as far as wax, and no wax.

You can wax the bottom. No problem. Itll wash off in about 5 minutes of moving across the water. Haha.

I have heard that the drag boat guys do not want wax on the running surface because it effects handling. How, I dont know and likely never will. My boats nowhere near drag boat fast, and Im way too lazy to wax my hull. Lucky if I vacuum the boat carpet and rinse the thing off once a year.

As for other things to perpetually maintain? Pull the rub rail insert once a year and check the top cap to hull tightness and seal. Check the props regularly(weekly if you fish as much as some of us) for fishing line and grass. Clean the battery connections every couple months. Keep your livewells clean and germ free if you fish tourneys.

Zach, I once got under one of the boats I owned and did exactly what you mentioned and really did a good polishing job on the bottom of my boat.
Next time I was on the lake I went to put the boat on the trailer and nearly drove it up into the back of my pickup. Didn't think of how slick it would be running onto my rails.
Never did that again. roflmao

Just wipe it down if you want it clean after each trip. No need to wax the running surface

Every year before I start the season I pull every wheel and really clean the inside of the wheel. May seem odd, but that way you can see at a glance, especially at the ramp if you've got a seal or wheel bearing failing. It will have grease slung all over the inside of the wheel. The good ole vortex hubs taught me well.
