Club tournament is coming up. Prefished yesterday and found a place I think will be very productive. Grass and hydrilla in 6 to 8 foot of water and about 20 feet wide. It runs for a 100 yards or so and on the outside edge it drops off into a creek channel. Water temp is 60 degrees and the grass and hydrilla is a foot under surface. I did throw my go to bait (Yellow Magic) over the grass and had some fun with some small keepers but I'm out for some bigguns! I think the drop off of the grass into the creek channel would be the place to fish. What would you throw on the edge of that grass/creek channel?

Water clarity would factor in; but in general I’d do the following

Windy/cloudy—bladed jig/chatterbait. slow slow roll spinnerbait.

Windy/more sun—jerkbait, lipless, Shad rap or other mid depth crank, sq bill with tighter wobble

Less wind/cloudy—keel weighted fluke, jerkbait, swim/grass jig, trig, crig the very edge

Less wind/sunny—shaky head, drop shot

I’d start where the creek channel bends into the grass and where the 100yards of grass starts and ends
Any drains and areas of no grass surrounded by grass can be good. If there is any timber or brush in the grass and areas of rock or harder bottom areas in the grass also

Rattle trap sounds about right for that grass right now!

Agree; could be one of those magical days where you start searching with a lipless and end up never putting it down

if it's clear throw a Alabama Rig, otherwise throw a big ole Colorado bladed spinner bait.

Either an MPack shad ( smaller version ) in Houdini weightless or a baby brush hog watermelon red w 1/4 oz and run it over the top of the grass until it drops off the edge. Work it slow and I'll bet you catch some bigger fish.

I would keep a weightless Snake O tied on all day and keep trying it.

Over the grass a Jackhammer Chatterbait and a red or orange trap if you can get it over the grass. Along the edge a wacky senior type bait.

Same. Also flip a jig down the edge and maybe a chatterbait.

A lot of good suggestions so far and for grins and possibly a biggun I would also throw a wake bait and see what happens. That is when you have you have your limit with the other baits and you are wanting to upsize.

Rattle traps and square bill crank baits>>make the retrieve erratic>>reel then pause>>reel and small fast jerks and then let set for a second>>fished a lake few weeks ago using this over grass and caught some big fish>>good luck
