Have some family building a house on Canyon Lake- Texas Parks lists the lake as good for Largemouth and have heavily stocked it over the last few years. Anyone fish that lake...any good and is it worth the 4.5hr drive from LaRue when I need a break from Athens?

Bass fishing is not really very good on Canyon.

Its worth a drive if you are visiting family, not worth the drive if you just want to bass fish.

Striped bass and Cats are good there, large mouth are slow, and small mouth are there but not overly common.

You can see a ton of tourney results on Lunker Hunters facebook (weekly tournament group, is on Canyon a lot) and ttz thursday nighters (during the summer) if you want to track the recent history.

If going to visit family bring your boat. Win-win....but since you posted in the Bass Section Athens is a way better bass lake on it’s worse days! And yes TPWD info is not a reliable up to date fishing information source.

I've really been struggling on Canyon. The highlight of my last three trips was going to Baja BBQ and drinking a beer because I couldn't catch anything......
