Talking about our boating misadventures reminded my of a buddy and his 'tongue swallowing moment' several years ago. He was coming back from a long day at the lake, at night. He found out he'd never tripped down the latch on his trailer hitch, or connected the chains. When his wife, who'd been nodding out as they drove home woke up when they hit a big bump and were slowing down to exit the free-way.
As their boat passed the truck, she said, "Look, we have a boat just like that".

This is a great story.
I have a question. What made you post 7 times 8 years ago and then disappear just to show back up all these years later and go on a posting spree?

I have a question. What made you post 7 times 8 years ago and then disappear just to show back up all these years later and go on a posting spree? I used to hang out on 2-3 different forums. Then changed jobs, changed hobbies, just did other things persuing other interests. Did big bore shooting awhile, built a couple Alum racing boats, built & played with cannons and bowling ball mortars. Lost relatives, lost friends, attended to parents getting old, and going to 10 funerals in 3 years. As the years went by, we got a weekender lake house on Cedar Creek, I got back into normal boating, then sold 2 houses & bought another to retire in. Now that all those projects are done, and being retired, I've gotten back into fishing and doing other things besides work all day and sleep all night. Used to be, I'd plan and spend 3 days getting ready to take the boat out. Now its at the end of the back yard in a lift. Taking it out is as easy as taking the car to the store. And, with more time to spend on the internet,, here I am.

After running beside me at 55mph it veered right, the trailer hit a tree and launched the boat while ripping through the bottom. The boat then hit guy line wires on a pole and split down the middle and stopped at the motor.

Good friend of mine had his parked in the street, someone came by during the night, cut the lock, set it on the ball and took off. Made it about 2 blocks before it came off and split the hull in two just like yours on an electrical pole. They didn't have to look far to find it.

Took off to Lake Amstead from Odessa one stormy night (around 1985) with a friend and his new Ranger Boat. A lot of beer was involved. Stopped about 50 miles south of I 10, pouring rain and no boat on trailer. Found it 20 miles back sitting pretty in the bar ditch. You think the drunk driving the pick up would have noticed. This drunk didn't. Kinda ruined that fishing trip. Wasn't all lost, we had more beer wating on the winch truck.
PS, this is not an oil field tale.

I've had a few spare tires come off and pass me, but never the boat I was pulling?
My little brother had borrowed my dads 16' fiberglass boat one time and went to Lake Worth, on the way back he had forgot to winch and strap it down. It came off on Loop 820. Got a few other participants who stopped and helped him load it back up. I still hear my dad cussing him to this day.
