But not many good fishing reports it seems like. We want to take a trip somewhere to a lake in Texas and stay for most of the week. We havent fished at all in months so trying to go all out here. Don't mind the drive since we will fish for so many days and when you bring along a 12 and 10 year old you need to do some catching.

Any suggestions on what lake would be our best bet?

How come I keep catching small fish when every product I buy is supposed to catch more and bigger fish?

Don't know which part of Texas you are in, but I'd head as far south as possible.

Where are you coming from? How far do you want to go? Are you going to camp or stay at a hotel?

Squaw Creek is a good Power Palnt lake choice but the are not open all the time.

Would also suggest Welsh near Mt. Pleasant. But I would not rememmend going there Friday-Sunday. Very busy with various tournaments every weekend. Also very popular with anglers not fishing tournament. It also has not been running everyday, but no idea which days it will run. Seems those fish are much more active when the plant is running. Can have some really fun...fish catching days (100+ fish a days) when it is on. Not really a BIG fish lake. My biggest is just at 6 and I've fished there for 25+ years.

Im in San Antonio. I dont really care how far I drive if I know the fishing is good. We are staying at least 5-6 days so its worth it. We prefer to stay on site if thats a possibility. Some lakes have the cabins which we will use if available. My older son is insisting we camp in a tent. Thats a possibility if it doesnt get too cold over night.

Was actually thinking this myself too. Much warmer which will help if we camp (and I imagine with the fishing as well) I thinking of Falcon lake which Ive actually never been to. Anybody knows how the fishing there is going?

I'd say Falcon, but they have a front forecast for Sunday and then four days of North wind=no bueno. Rayburn is probably the backup for public lakes with plenty of lodging. Lots of small fish to be caught fairly easily with a drop shot on points/humps. Outside edge of grass bite is pretty decent if you're in the right areas, but not easy for kiddos. Don't know how Fayette is fishing, or if there are cabins available this late, but it's a cool little lake that generally has cooperative fish. Bastrop South Shore Park is one of my families' favorite camping spots and really close to you. But don't know how the "catching" is going there right now.

It'll be in the mid and upper 70s this weekend at Falcon
Recent fishing report Falconfishingreport

Being responsible for a child on Falcon would factor into my decision.

Coleto Creek Reservoir/Coleto Creek Park would be another option--several fishing and camping options there.

From Sunday through Thursday it won't break 70 and the North wind will affect getting around, as it always does (especially with lil ones onboard). I believe the US side of Falcon to be the safest water in America because of LEO presence. I just don't think its a great time to go for catching. Now, if you can go Thanksgiving day through Sunday 11/25(if 10 day forecast is accurate)......a warming trend is always good there in the fall/winter.

Might want to check out Fayette County lake. It is a power plant lake and does have two camp grounds that I know of and at least one of them also has cabins. Can't tell you much about the fishing, I have been there in a few years but it is closer to you, is a warm water lake (normally better fishing this time of year) and it has on-site camping and cabins.

I'm sure someone else on this forum can fill in current fishing conditions.

If you coming from San Antonio and plan on spending 5-6 days, I would spend 3 days during the week on welsh, and Friday,Saturday, Sunday on squaw creek. Be sure to make your reservations for squaw.
